Exam Mode
ACT as Pen & paper test (Testing Center)
It is a paper-and-pencil test. You will write your essay in pencil (no mechanical pencils or ink pens) on the lined pages of an answer folder that will be provided to you.
ACT as Computer Delivered (Outside US only)
The ACT consists of four multiple-choice tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. Computer based exam started in 2021.
ACT Exam Pattern
English
75 Questions in 45 Minutes. Measures the ability to make decisions to revise and edit short texts and essays in different genres.
Mathematics
60 Questions in 60 Minutes. The mathematical skills you have typically acquired in courses up to the beginning of grade 12.
Reading
40 Questions in 35 Minutes. The ability to read closely, reason logically about texts using evidence, and integrate information from multiple resources.
Science
40 Questions in 35 Minutes. The interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required in biology, chemistry, Earth/space sciences and physics.
Writing (optional)
1 essay in 40 Minutes. Writing skills taught in high school English classes and in entry-level college composition courses.
Total Duration & Breaks
2 hours and 55 minutes for 215 multiple-choice questions. Includes a 15-minute break after Mathematics. Taking the optional writing test adds a 5-minute break and 40 minutes.

The base fee is $181.50 (without writing) and $206.50 (inclusive of the writing section).
